Artist in Residence

Finally, another post in this blog. We have an Artist in Residence since a few weeks, one day she came through the door because she lost her house nearby. She asked if she could stay and offered to use the hotel as the canvas of her self-realization.

We gave her a room and she gave us nice decorations:

In the end, she even created artful Jam from the Elderberries in our garden:

Its almost October and this blog has been sitting idle for a long time. Its a busy season now for the hotel and I am very happy that we have a group that reminds me of the two highlights of the current year: The Grundtvig Workshop I did myself in January and the wonderful meeting arranged by Renate Schnee in April

So the dream of a hotel that hosts living communities rather than simply isolated tourists becomes alive again and again, and it was just today that I visited Viennas Tourist Boards annual conference to hear that this is the next big trend after the wellness and design boom.

So to introduce the group that we are currently hosting, its called the Comenius Association, a network of 24 teacher training institutions from different European countries. They are hosted by the "kirchliche Pädagogische Hochschule" in Strebersdorf. They meet twice a year. In each autumn meeting they visit one of the member organisation, while the spring meeting is always in the Strassbuoug region (Klingenthal).

They use these meetings to organize a lot of projects, there are some lectures, but the meeting has manifold purposes. Besides the project organisation its also a good opportunity for getting acquainted with the partner organisation, their cultural backgrounds, the opportunities for student exchange in Erasmus programs. The focus of Comenius Association is to facilitate a host of different ways to share experience and internationalize teacher training.

Successful one year celebration of new tenant

I refrained from posting anything about new tenants in the hotel because the last ones were not able to sustain long to say the least. So I missed posting for a long tiome alltogether here. But now with joint effort we celebrate one year of the Jäger famiky running the Café Karolinenhof. On 8th of May we will have a celebration. At least a note here.

New Tenants again

What a year! Silvia and Alfred did not make it for a long time out of private reasons, so we had to switch tenants again. I waited for several months to update the blog to see if things will become stable again. But I think there will be some interesting news soon.

Café Karolinenhof re-reopened

Our dear ladies found out that their cooperation was not built on stable bases. We were lucky enough that a new couple of tenants took over instantly, and the cafe re-opened again today.

Alfred and Sylvia are the new tenants.

They continue the same concept, a cosy viennes style Café where you can get Viennese food and lovely pastries.

They are waiting to give you a taste of Viennese hospitality. (ot of some unforeseen reasons that was only a very short interlude, see next post.

Cafe Karolinenhof re-opened!

David and Michi of the "Jedleseer" Rock Group gave un unplugged mini-concert during the reopening of the Café in our house. For about four months we were without restaurant, and we were screening several possible canditates to continue the tradition in a sustainable way.

Eventualy we got a visit by two ladies dropping in, one of them lives around the corner and she brought her friend Helga Eichhorn who stems from an old innkeepers family in the nearby city of Klosterneuburg. Helga partnered with architect Gerti Gipperich and also engaged her two sons, Roland and Mario, to staff the new old meeting point not only of our hotel guests, but also of our neighborhood, Jedlesee.

Helga and Gerti will do their best to provide for our hotel guests a cosy, homy atmosphere in the midst of a Viennese workers district.

We closed our Hotel on 19th of December for the Christmas Days
and we had a nice reunion....

so we all wish you a merry cristmas and a happy new year.
We hope to see you back in 2009!

"uplifting visitors" in Hotel Karolinenhof, November 2008

I forgot to put an SD card in my digital camera: so I missed the images of the kind act of Greg Baxter bringing in our BIG oleander tree in a BIF pot from the yard indoors to the Salon. Normally we would need two or three workers to carry this - but currently we have none! And guess what: he did it like other people would lift a cardboard box with some old books. Yes, I can proudly start this blog with the announcement that a World Champion and his wife stayed at Hotel Karolinenhof, and they LOVED it and we loved to have them! With them was Mark Menslage, another Champion. At the 2008 WPF World Championship, set here in our lovely Vienna, Austria, Greg Baxter completed a third 551-lb.deadlift, and called for a fourth attempt World Record at 601 lbs. This successful lift demolished his former World Record of 584 lbs.

Wow! I hope Greg and Lois and Mark and Mary and Joe had a safe trip home and are enjoying a warmer and more sunny climate that we currently do. And we all thank you for being such wonderful guests. really, really uplifting:
